Marilyn Monroe was sent to an orphanage when she was nine years old. Her mother had been hospitalized for mental issues. Her mother was so debilitated she spent most of the rest of your life inside some kind of mental institution. Her grandmother was committed to a hospital for mental disturbances as well. The stage name, Marilyn Monroe, was created with the help of Ben Lyon at Fox Studios. He chose Marilyn because of a friend he knew that did musicals in New York. Her grandmother's last name was Monroe, and that was it. Marilyn Monroe. After the estate sales today, five of them, I came home to a Marilyn Monroe marathon on tv. So far, three (maybe four, there was a nap), movies with Marilyn Monroe. From one line appearances to starring roles. Kind of fun. Okay, back to estate sales. Five. Count 'em. FIVE. The first three were nothing. UGH! The last two were really good, and I will be going back to those two again tomorrow. Half-price day! I also did a couple loads of laundry today, so that is done now for another month or two.
