Okay, I made it home. A full seven days gone from the Curious House, and all I had was a carry-on and a back pack. And I still had too much stuff. This morning when I woke up, we were in Marshall, Texas. Then, we had stops in Longview, Mineola, Dallas, Ft. Worth, Cleburne, and Temple. Instead of going in to Austin, I got off the train in Taylor, and Jimmie and Linda picked me up. On the way from Temple, a hose broke, and we were stopped in the middle of nothing. Interestingly, they got it fixed, and we were on our way again. I am not sure how far off schedule we were, but my only concern was Jimmie and Linda having to wait for me. Otherwise, there was no stress for almost 80 hours on a train ride from Delray Beach to Taylor. I will do it again, but I think in the future, if I am traveling alone, I don't need a 'full' room, I can do just fine in a 'roomette.' My next train adventure will likely be in February of 2026, from Kingman, Arizona (because Las Vegas does not have a train station), to Taylor. It is very interesting seeing this country from something besides a jet plane or an Interstate Highway, so I will take advantage of it while I still can. Time for me to finish, and take a snooze. The photo accompanying this entry was taken by Linda as I was getting off the train. From where the porter is standing in the doorway, my room window was the first one from this side of the group of five, second floor. Does that make sense?Thursday, September 4, 2025
