Well, I have done my best to replicate the John Candy role in Planes, Trains and Automobiles, but not necessarily in that order. Mine was Automobiles, Planes and Trains. I was up this morning at about my usual time, gort some stuff packed and headed to the airport at about 9 o'clock. I had a flight to Chicago at 11:40, and everything went according to plan. I got to Chicago, and got an Uber to take me to Union Station, where my train left at 6:40. I had intended to take the train from Austin to Washington, DC, but there are track repairs being made between Chicago and Austin, so I am doing this the hard way. This is my annual visit to DC for Legislative meetings, and meeting with our elected officials. I will be back in Austin on Thursday. So far, we have made stops in South Bend, Elkhart, and the next one is Waterloo, Indiana. Did you know that Austin was originally called Waterloo? Well, now you do. Dinner was at 7, I sat with three other people, had a nice conversation, and the first glass of wine I have had in several years. Not sure how many. I get to DC tomorrow at 1PM EDT, and so far, so good. Not being in a hurry is not a bad thing.Saturday, May 31, 2025
