Random acts of kindness abound! Today was the 33rd Annual Schwertner BBQ. It all started off as a Bicentennial Celebration in 1976, and the tradition is still going strong. It has received a lot of attention in the Bartlett Tribune Progress (Serving Central Texas Since 1886) and all of our neighbors were either planning to be there or mostly working to make the dinner at the Schwertner Community Center a tremendous success. It was raining when we got there, but that was obviously not stopping lots of people from attending. When we walked in the door, one of the first people we saw was our neighbor Irene, and she came up and gave us a wonderful greeting. We were getting ready to pay for our dinners and the man behind the counter told us it had already been taken care of. Irene was a sneaky one, and paid for both of our lunches AND desserts! We love living out here in the country, I might have mentioned that to you earlier!
When we headed on over to the food line, were were greeted by another neighbor, Pauline. I think she was in charge of putting the white bread in plastic bags for the carry-out meals. We decided to take our dinners home because of the weather, but the place was really starting to pack them in as we were leaving. If they have anything left over, we volunteered our house for the storage facility! We had BBQ pork and beef, cole slaw, potato salad, baked beans, onions and a great big pickle. I think (pretty sure) everything was home made, even the pickle. It was delicious. Irene made some pumpkin crisp for dessert, and that was REALLY delicious! YUMMY! There was so much food in our carry-out containers that we are planning to have the rest of it for dinner tonight!
The rain is being kind of passive-aggressive today. The sun will shine for a few minutes, and then it will rain a little bit. The sun will shine some more, and then it will rain REALLY hard for a little bit. The sun will shine and then it will rain for another while. It just does not seem to be able to make up its mind. We really need the rain, although our ground is saturated. We have had a lot of good rain in the last month, but now our neighbors to the south in Bastrop County are getting some good rains and they were much worse off than we were. Just a couple minutes ago, the rain let up, and the sun came out, but as you can see, the clouds are forming off to the south, and I expect it is all headed this way. I am sorry for all the mess that is occurring at the Austin City Limits Music Festival, but, we REALLY need the rain.
We have been experiencing frogs in the pool today. I pulled one out of the skimmer this morning that I thought might make it, but nope...s/he is a goner. Then Jody pulled a BIG one out of the pool a while later, and then I rescued a really teeny-tiny one out after that. We now had a floating piece of Styrofoam in the pool, so if something does get in the pool, at least there will be something for the to climb onto. Last year (or maybe really early this year) I pulled a skunk out of the pool...tired, but okay. We are getting a pool cover in a couple weeks (it has been ordered) so we expect that problem to be solved. And, we hope the pool will stay cleaner that it has in the past.
Right now, the sun has decided to come out again, but I am not fooled. We had about 4/10 of an inch of rain yesterday, and already today we are over 3/4 of an inch. There is a good possibility of rain every day this week.
Do a good deed or be kind to someone that does not expect it of you. Make some small change in your life that will be a benefit to our planet. Have Fun!
