This entry may have a weather-related undertone here and there, but it is not my intention for this entry to be all about how freakin' cold it is outside (believe me, it is), but about another issue that may (or may not) have anything to do with weather. I was reading the other day (or maybe a month ago) about how farmers in West Texas were complaining that there had not been a freeze yet. It seems that the organic cotton farmers depend on the freeze to defoliate the cotton so they can harvest it. No herbicides are allowed or they lose their 'organic' designation. I thought that was pretty interesting, since just about a mile away from us was a cotton patch that had yet to be harvested. Well, I believe they sprayed it with a herbicide a while back, but the cotton still has not been harvested. Had they only waited another couple weeks, they could have saved (not only) their money, but (probably) a couple million bees, too.Some people!
