Garrison Keillor did a great story this morning (quick, too) on NPR about the Ides of March. The following is not a transcript of that, but has been (for the most part) plagiarized directly from the Wikipedia site: The Ides of March is best known as the date on which Julius Caesar was assassinated in 44BC, stabbed to death at a meeting of the senate. Sound familiar to anyone? Don't get any ideas. A seer had warned him that harm would come to him no later than the Ides of March, and on the way to the meeting he saw the seer again, and jeered him. The seer basically replied 'the day ain't done yet a-hole'. Cesar's death triggered a civil war that lead to Octavian (Augustus) rise to power, which is what no one wanted.
But I digress...if you look out towards our back pasture, you will see two of these ornamental Bradford Pears blooming up a storm. The photo does not do justice to their beauty. When we moved here, there were four of these trees, one thing or another has taken two of them, and I think one of the remaining trees is not going to make it through another summer. Maybe if we get a little bit of rain.
We did get 0.05" of rain in the last 24 hours. So much for the rain chances forecast for today and tomorrow. I think we are done for this go round. Not complaining though. Jody and I went into Austin late this morning and got some chores done and stopped for lunch in Georgetown on the way back.
We shall see what tomorrow brings, but I think there is a serious chicken coop cleaning in my future.
